The boycott, scheduled to begin in May, has been organized by grassroots efforts initiated on the online forum Reddit. The organizers allege that Loblaw, one of Canada's largest grocery chains, has been engaging in excessive price gouging during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response to the growing backlash, Loblaw has defended its pricing practices, stating that its profit margins have remained consistent with historical levels. However, the company's recent financial statements show a significant increase in profits since the onset of the pandemic.

The petition, launched on Change.org, is calling on the Competition Bureau of Canada to investigate Loblaw's alleged profiteering and take appropriate action. As of April 24, 2024, the petition has gathered over 95,000 signatures, indicating widespread public concern over the issue.
